The Clayton County Schools have announced that middle and high school students will no longer be able to wear backpacks or use lockers through the end of the school year.

The decision was made in an effort to improve safety and security on campuses. Superintendent Dr. Morcease Beasley the policy is based on a rise in the numbers of students bringing weapons to school.

The school district is working on getting updated metal detectors according to Beasley.

Other school districts have backpack policies including Rockdale County Public Schools where all students are required to use clear backpacks this school year.
