Chain restaurants and popular eateries are great, but there's something about sitting down at a locally famous hole-in-the-wall or a longtime favorite mom and pop shop that has been serving up tried and true delicious meals for years that just hits home.
Using reviews, awards and accolades as well as first-hand experience, LoveFood compiled a list of the "best mom and pop restaurant" in every state, eateries that have been a mainstay of the community for decades or establishments that serve up family recipes that have been perfected over several generations.
According to the site, two restaurants were named the best mom and pop restaurants in all of Georgia: Home Grown in Atlanta and Zeke's Kitchen & Bar in Smyrna. Here's what the site had to say about these restaurant offering "incredible comfort food":
"Chef Kevin Clark and his partner Lisa Spooner opened this laid-back joint in Reynoldstown in 2010, and it quickly became a neighborhood favorite. Clark has a background in fine dining, but at Home Grown it's all about Southern fare made from locally sourced ingredients (some of which even come from the garden outside). A go-to order is the Comfy Chicken, an open-faced biscuit topped with fried chicken and covered in pork sausage gravy."
"Honoring Haitian culture and cuisine, Zeke's Kitchen & Bar is a popular Smyrna spot that's loved for its authentic flavors and friendly staff. The restaurant boasts industrial-style interiors, complete with vaulted ceilings and dark furnishings. The menu is where the family's personality really shines, though, with house favorites like plantain nachos, shrimp tacos, and fried red snapper proving popular. Locals recommend saving room for a slice of the house-made rum cake, which comes drizzled with a rum glaze and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream."
